Cedar Creek Grist Mill

It's like driving into the past. Heavily wooded and a beautiful stream doing the same thing today as it did over a hundred years ago. The soothing sounds of the rushing water may allow the visitors time for reflection of those times. The south side of the creek has four picnic tables to those fortunate enough to lay claim and allow a great view of the stream, the mill and the covered bridge. |
SMOKE IN THE PNW!
Leaving Casa BZ in Vancouver, WA I made for Hwy 30 in Oregon to head West at 0630 Sunday. At Longview I crossed that wonderfully tall bridge back into WA! Then picked up WA Hwy 4 that runs along the Columbia to the coast. I had the road to myself - What a treat! At 101- I veered north and wound along Wilapa Bay to Raymond where I took route 6 east back towards I-5. Had never explored this charming road. Once back at Chehalis I got creative with small local two-lanes and wandered back north to Olympia! Did have to hit the Freeway back to Shelton...but not for long! |

Quite the adventure! Just getting there was a challenge! We took as many backroads as possible - eschewing freeway & major highways. The only place we were forced to join the real world was on 101 south of Olympia up to Hood Canal & Hoodsport. We suffered rain, cold, wind...some sun...on our five hour journey north.
Great group of bikers - every kind of bike and human - Young / Old / Women & Men. I will admit that there were parts of our Saturday group ride that had me wishing I'd stayed in camp! Nasty sharp chunks of large rocks, hundreds of pot holes full of rain water, mud, snow, rain, gravel, crazy steep cliffs and narrow passages, steep hills and downgrades...and yes, it was awesome! |

BZ and I both felt that my bike with the tall after-market windscreen and the KLR custom dash risers created an uncomfortable side-buffeting. I like the height of the screen since I'm a bit taller. Brian found the set-up made him nauseous. Our final set-up provided me with the added height that I was hoping for, thus more chest and head 'calm air' and the elimination of the very annoying buffeting. |
